"Welcoming Trials" White Skinnies and a cute baby

I've never been one who has done extremely well in adversity. I like my routine, I like to know what to expect, I like to be in control.

Enter motherhood. :)

It is pretty much impossible to control your circumstances in life, and that was made clear once I became a mom. You can try to plan and schedule out as much as your heart desires, but the one of those little kiddos ends up getting sick, or popping a new tooth, or just decides to be awake all night for some unknown reason!

I was praying last night as I was trying to comfort my 1 year old who had been crying for nearly an hour (from teething I think, but who knows!). Praying at 3am is interesting. You are completely exhausted but know that what you NEED is prayer. To connect to the great sustainer of life to give your some energy to tackle the rest of the night. Then these verses came to mind from Jesus' sermon on the Mount.

The Beatitudes

3 “God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him,
for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.
4 God blesses those who mourn,
    for they will be comforted.
5 God blesses those who are humble,
for they will inherit the whole earth.
6 God blesses those who hunger and thirst for justice,
    for they will be satisfied.
7 God blesses those who are merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
8 God blesses those whose hearts are pure,
    for they will see God.
9 God blesses those who work for peace,
for they will be called the children of God.
10 God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right,
for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.

I never thought of trials as an opportunity, an opportunity to press into the Lord, and become more like Him. So because trials and tribulations are inevitable, I will try to choose to welcome them as a chance to sanctify me and bring me closer to Christ.

"But blessed are those who trust in the LORD and have made the LORD their hope and confidence. They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit."Jeremiah 17:7-8
